Exploring Washington County this holiday season
In the hussle of life and priorities, we often neglect the magic that is surrounding our everyday lives. Here is some wonderful ideas this holiday season that involve little or no money.
The Hager House (www.hagerhouse.org). This is the house from the founder of Hagerstown, Maryland. They offer tours of the home, and host various events throughout the year. Their German Christmas tours are upcoming and the decorations and attention to details are amazing! Their hosting these tours through December 1-31.
Tis the season....for tree lighting ceremonies!
Want to see Santa this year but avoid those deadly mall prices for photographs? Go to tree lighting ceremonies. Free to attend!
Smithsburg, MD- December 2, 2011
Hagerstown, MD- November 22, 2011 @ 5pm in Public Square. Complete with caroling, Santas arrival
and bands.
Wiliamsport,MD- December 2, 2011 Town & Byron Park @ 7pm. Chirstmas Parade and Tree lighting
A favorite event for our family to attend is Antietam National Battlefield Memorial Illuminations (http://www.nps.gov/anti/planyourvisit/luminary.htm). I have attended this event for several years now. I find it a privledge to indulge not only in a personal part of our family tree but a haunting reminder of our history. 23,000 candles are lit in memory of the soliders that were missing in action, injuired or killed. This year it is on December 3, 2011 starting at 6pm- on and snow date is December 10, 2011.
